This strategic project will consist of developing an educational portal, which uses the most recent technologies available on the market. The portal will be the central access point to information, to certain services and will ensure the collaboration of the school board for the students, teachers and parents. This portal will be both internally accessible to the school board and externally accessible on the Internet. It will provide the following information:
- Student and Parent Information
- Student schedules
- Student report cards
- Homework
- Community (Site)
- Classroom communities
- Collaboration Sites between schools
- Sites for special events
In order to meet these requirements, the CSMB selected the most recent Microsoft collaboration platform – SharePoint 2010. The main factors that justified their decision were:
- Ability to adapt the user interface to meet the requirements of the CSMB
- Solid integration with Microsoft tools such as Office, AD and Exchange which will greatly reduce the training time.
- SharePoint encourages the integration of new technologies such as Office Communication Server
- SharePoint's modular aspect allows the development of components without affecting the internal structure
- Stable platform that is updated by Microsoft, which allows us to focus on the specified requirements of the CSMB
- Uses the new SharePoint 2010 functionalities (Claims Based for the simplified management of 44 000 users)
- Maximum use of the SharePoint 2010 platform in order to integrate with the internal system of the CSMB (not Microsoft).
- Ø Emphasis on SharePoint 2010's social network functionalities
- Ø Interesting evolution possibilities with an increased third party product offers (WebPart and others).
